I have been on a deep cleaning kick for the last month or so. I'm prepping the house for winter because when winter hits, I want to be doing nothing more than enjoying the holidays and snuggled on the damn couch! Keeping a house clean is A LOT of work. I didn't realize all the tiny little things you forget need a cleaning every once in a while. So, I started to make a list of all the things that I never really cared to clean before when we lived in an apartment. Ha! (stay tuned for that post with that list).
One thing that tends to get pretty dusty and grimy are vents. In the past I have removed each one and cleaned them by hand. Mind you, I only had about 5 in my whole apartment. Now that there are clearly more, I knew I needed a new routine; stat. A little bit of research and I learned that I could have someone else clean the vents for me. Yup. That "person" would be... my dish washer. Oh how my love is growing for her everyday!
Because the vents weren't that dirty, a quick light wash did the job. Here is what you'll need to do.

Quick and easy vent cleaning
- Remove all your vents from every room.
- Clear out your dish washer.
- Place your vents in the dish washer in the best way you can.
- DO NOT USE DISHWASHER SOAP! Dishwasher soap is too harsh for cleaning the vents.
- Choose your cycle based on how dusty/dirty your vents are.
- Dry your vents immediately after your wash cycle is over. You don't want them to start to accumulate any rust.
I hope this tip helps make your cleaning routine a little easier and gives you more time to spend with the kids and hubby this season. Share your favorite cleaning tips in the comments below, I'd love to hear them!
