For the past two weeks, we've been working on a letter a week with Gianna. I've had a few moms suggest it to me and so we've been giving it a whirl. It has been a lot of fun picking all the activities each week. I perused Pinterest and of course they had everything we needed! We started with the letter "A" and will work our way down the alphabet. There are a ton of activity sheets, crafts, etc. that you can find. I printed enough to last the week and tried to work on the easier practice sheets first. Then, work our way up to more difficult ones at the end of the week. But most importantly, we try to work at her pace. If we see she isn't grasping it too well; we hold off on moving to a more difficult practice sheet. I kept track of the activities and resources I found to share with you! These all worked out great for Gianna, so I thought I would share.
Make it fun!
I thought these sheets were fun! They are also great for letter recognition which is what we mostly want to accomplish with Gianna. She knows her ABC's, but she can't quite point them all out yet. You can find these in every letter on The Measured Mom's website for free. I bought some Bingo Markers from The Dollar Tree in a few colors so she can alternate colors and have a good ol' time.
Get CRAFTY!
Of course, I had to include a craft. This particular craft gives your little one some time to practice cutting with scissors and gluing. I loved that this free printable came with a small image as a reference so Gianna could work on making her craft match the picture. I found this on the Fun With Mama website. She has others that are just as great.
MAKE IT A COMBO!
This activity was also a great combo. It's also good for working on motor skills, matching and letter recognition. You can find lots of these on this site here.
USE WHAT YOU'VE GOT AT HOME!
I loved this idea when I saw it on Pinterest. It was perfect because someone had just gifted her some Melissa & Dough alphabet magnets. Plus, who doesn't have a cookie sheet at home?! The one thing that was missing was the alphabet sheet. I took care of that! I designed a quick alphabet sheet that you can download for your own use here. You're welcome! :)
MAKE YOUR LETTER A PART OF READING TIME!
During our "B" week we took a trip to the library for Toddler Time. I thought it would be helpful to continue to focus on our letter during reading time. This is also helping us stay on track for our "1,000 Books until Kindergarten" challenge. Double win!
DISPLAY IT!
It's super helpful if you place your letter of the week and completed activities in places your little one spends a lot of time. That way it's always around and you can chat about it throughout the day. Plus, what kid doesn't like seeing their A+ work displayed.
Gianna is officially into "Mommy School" and looks forward to it each day. She's also learning how to be a leader as she turns "Mommy School" into "Gianna School" most days. I hope these activities work for you and your family.
Please share your favorite learning activities with us in the comments. We love to learn new things. Happy learning with your little one's!
