This week I finally found some time to visit our local library and get Gianna a new library card. I've had that on my "To Do List" since we moved to Indiana so it felt good to check that off! I LOVE to read but haven't been fitting it in as much as I'd like to. I was super excited when the librarian informed me that they had a program called "1,000 books until Kindergarten". It's pretty simple. You sign up your little one; then you receive a sheet that allows you to track the books 100 books at a time. Once the sheet is full, you take it back to the library and your child receives a small prize. Then you continue on to the next 100 until you reach a 1,000 books. I thought this was such a great idea! Especially, since I started bullet journaling, I have been trying to find ways to continue to work on building good habits for Gianna. I plan to follow along too and see how many books I can read before she gets to kindergarten. After all, we should practice what we preach, right?
In a day full of work, house chores, to do lists, laundry and more; it can become a little difficult fitting in extra activities and reading time. I tend to get home late on the nights I go into the studio and once we get home, she is usually knocked out cold! So this will help me stay on track with her reading. Plus, we all know how important it is for us to read to our children.
Since some of you may not have this program at your local library, I created a tracking sheet where you can track the books you've read with your little one, 50 at a time. You can then reward them with some of their favorite treats, snacks, toys, etc. I am also sharing a list of books the librarian gave us that are suggested books your child should hear before kindergarten. I hope your little one's enjoy this challenge and continue to love books. Happy reading!
