Before my husband and I closed on our home, we were all overwhelmed with sharing our one bathroom in our tiny 2-bedroom apartment. After he existed the bathroom, he jokingly said that our guest bathroom in our new home was going to be the transgender bathroom. I laughed because he had just finished reading an article discussing all the fuss people were making about bathrooms being open to the transgender community.
Once we moved into our home I thought to myself, I really am going to make it a transgender bathroom! Not just to get a laugh out of him, which I did, but to also make a statement to any and all guests who visit our home. We don't care what your preferences are or how you live your life, you are welcome here. Not only that, we want our children to understand the importance of loving everyone for who they are. And to treat people with respect and equality. You may not always agree with people, their views, their religion, or their sexual orientation. However, that never gives anyone the permission to treat them differently because of it.
A good friend of mine, who has a great food, drink and travel blog by the way, visited last weekend and loved our bathroom photo. She asked where we purchased it and when I told her I was a DIY of mine, she immediately said, 'Hook me up!". So I thought to myself, I should share this with others so that they too can continue to spread the message of equality, one bathroom at a time. :)
