When I turned 23, I was the queen of sinus infections. I mean, I had a sinus infection at least 3 times a year. It didn't matter what season we were in either. I was totally caught of guard with these painful infections because I never had sinus issues as a kid/teen. So imagine my surprise when I was so ill and in so much pain that I would literally be bed ridden for three days!
As the years went on, I began my research to fix the issue. I had enough. I even considered having a balloon sinuplasty done. I was serious. During and after pregnancy I had no sinus infections until recently. I'll get to that shortly.
This year, Gianna, our baby girl, got every illness under the sun once she started daycare. It was awful. She even got pneumonia! Since the pneumonia and countless viruses, she has had continuous congestion. It seemed like no matter what we did, the mucus would not go away. She was on antibiotics for awhile and we use the Nose Frida religiously. (By the way, if you don't own one, get one NOW. You won't regret it.) We purchased a pricey cold mist humidifier, she was on a nebulizer; you name it, we had it and we did it. But, months later, she's still coughing up mucus.
Two weeks ago I began looking into other options to get rid of her congestion. I started seeing search results for Coconut Oil. I was intrigued so I read further. Turns out it's great for nasal congestion and works as an inflammatory among other things. Unfortunately, Gianna's congestion was chest related so it didn't seem like it would do much for her but I gave it a try anyway. I too was feeling like a sinus infection was creeping in and ready to rock my world again. So I went to Walgreen and bought the biggest tub of Extra Virgin Coconut Oil I could find.
I am an avid user of Neti Pots and so when I learned I could use the Coconut Oil in a Neti Pot, I was so ready. I kid you not, in just 6 hours, I was feeling better. The sinus pressure was gone and my sinuses were flushing out. Prior to this discovery, I would have debilitating sinus pain for at least 3 days. I have never bounced back from a sinus cold/infection that fast in my life! We don't get a day off from being a mom, so being able to bounce back and get back to work the following day was wonderful!
Here is what I used and how I used it...try it and let me know if it worked just as well for you in the comments section.
I'd love to hear if others had the same result.

For the baby, I placed a tablespoon of the coconut oil in her baby food. I'm not sure how much it helped her because two days later her doctor prescribed more antibiotics to clear up her infection. I plan to try it again if she gets another cold and try to avoid any meds. I'll keep you posted but I'm hoping I won't have to try it at all for her. Fingers crossed. | For Adults:
